St. John Vianney High School
St. John Vianney High School is in search of a dedicated, experienced professional to serve as the Varsity Head Coach for the Boys/Girls Cross Country teams beginning in the 2025-26 school year. St. John Vianney HS is a Catholic, co-educational college preparatory school located in Holmdel, Monmouth County, NJ.
St. John Vianney plays in the Shore Conference of the NJSIAA and participates in highly competitive conference, league, and non-league schedules. The Cross County Head Coach directs and coordinates all aspects of the team, following the school’s mission and values. The goal of the coach is to lead this competitive program at the highest level of play by teaching and developing the runners’ performance and sportsmanship. Team building is essential.
The Boys/Girls Cross Country Head Coach is responsible for managing the coaching staff and team budget. The ability to manage the program during pre- and off-season is required. This position receives a stipend, with the possibility of being a full-time teaching or staff position, and reports to the athletic director.

Requirements/Expectations:
- Bachelor’s degree- Prior high school/college coaching is preferred, and collegiate running experience is required
- Strong distance and performance coaching experience with high school-aged student-athletes and USTAF certification is beneficial
- Experience working in a school and coaching male and female athletes is preferred
- Ability to attend all team practices, meetings, & games from August- November
- Understanding of the college recruiting process to assist athletes
- Vision for leading a competitive high school XC team
- Commitment to the principles of our Catholic college preparatory school
- Interpersonal skills and record of developing strong relationships with student-athletes, colleagues, administrators, parents/guardians, and others
- Experience and familiarity with competitive high school or youth running programs are desirable
- Present for 2 open houses, ‘Meet the Coaches Night’, season banquets, signing days, and other events in support of the team and athletic program
- Provide instruction and feedback on running techniques, endurance training, and race strategies.
Candidates must be willing to undergo a background check and take the required Virtus training.
